  • First group to be called as "hip hop" K-Pop group
    • Usually, K-Pop groups are not related to hip hop. However, with the appearance of BTS, Koreans started to like hip-hop music created by K-pop groups.

  • BTS wear hip hop clothes -> Korean teens became interested in hip hop style clothes
  • First group in Korea to receive Billboard music award, First group in Korea to perform on the AMA award
    • Before BTS, K-pop's influences was limited to countries in Asia. However, their appearance at the Billboard music award attracted many fans from western countries. 
  • Koreans began listening to Desiigner and Steve Aoki more after these two artists collaborated with BTS 
  • Many teenagers are part of BTS fan club 'Army"
    • If someone says they are "Army", you know for sure that they are BTS fans.

Gak? Angle? What is this?

In 2017, many Korean teeangers started to say "Gak" after saying the things that they want to do. So, what does "Gak" mean? Gak in Korean means angle. An angle contains degrees in number. Therefore, Korean teenagers used this word to show that they want to do certain things. For instance, if a boy wants to eat hamburgers for his dinner, he would say to his friends "Hamburger Gak?". The word "Gak" is commonly used between Korean teenagers and it is important to note that the word is not offensive or bad in any ways. It is just used to show what people want to do at the moment.

Introduction of Jay Park Famous song: Solo, All I wanna Do, Yacht The leader of label AOMG Just like USA hip-hop, Korean rappers started to form labels. Jay Park was one of the pioneer who started his own hip hop label  Hip-Hop/ R&B solo artist  Very Independent  Jay Park do not care about others' opinion and this inspired many Koreans. Most artists in Korea are part of big entertainment company (YG, JYP, and SM) Korean THUG life Jay Park was originally a leader of K-pop group called 2PM. He had to stay in routine and only perform certain types of music just like other K-pop stars. However, he became more successful after he left the team. This proved that not only big labels can be successful but also independence can gain popularity.
